THE PRISONER WINE CO.
2018 THE PRISONER
PROPRIETARY RED
NAPA VALLEY

With one of the most viral labels and wines, The Prisoner Red Wine is as recognizable and popular as Aerosmith’s “Walk This Way” hit from 1975. Conceived and created by one of the most creative winemakers of today, Dave Phinney launched his initial vintage of The Prisoner in 2000 with 385 cases. The production in 2017 was about 165,000 cases, and the wine sells out every year.

Phinney sold The Prisoner brand to the Huneeus Vintners in 2008 for a reportedly $40 million. Eight years later The Prisoner Wine Company was sold to Constellation Brands for a whopping $285 million.

With a wine as popular and recognizable as the The Prisoner, it can be a challenge to surpass expectations and raise the bar that’s been set so high.

The new 2018 Prisoner did exactly that…

Our veteran tasting panel has been tasting Prisoner since their inaugural vintage, and every one of us agreed wholeheartedly that this was their best ever.

The 2018 unshackles a gang of intense blue fruits, chocolate dipped raspberries, liquid violets and boysenberry. The wine is balanced, charming and chock-full of intriguing fruits and earthly hedonism.

The sheer quality is unmistakeable in this vintage, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this it sells out at a record pace. You may want to lock yours up before the scores are released…

A glass-staining, deep, dense bluish/purple in color, the 2018 Prisoner originates from a gang of top vineyard sites throughout Napa Valley, including Korte Ranch in St. Helena and Tiedemann Ranch in Yountville.

Each distinct vineyard block adds its own unique dimension, helping to complete the uniquely complex flavors that we have come to love and expect from The Prisoner.

If you’ve been a fan of The Prisoner in the past, or simply love big, rich, quality red wines, I highly recommend stocking up on this 2018… You’ll be so glad you did.
