SHAFER VINEYARDS
2019 ONE POINT FIVE
CABERNET SAUVIGNON

STAGS LEAP DISTRICT | NAPA VALLEY

Father and son team John and Doug Shafer began their working partnership in 1983, referred to as the “generation and a half” or One Point Five. Hence the name of their Stags Leap Disctric Cabernet Sauvignon.

John and Doug have spent over 35 years overseeing the production of award-winning Cabernet Sauvignons, ranking among the best in the valley and embodying their passion for Napa Valley’s Stags Leap District.

To help them in their quest, winemaker Elias Fernandez has been crafting award wining wines at Shafer for over 30 years.

One Point Five is sourced predominately from the Borderline vineyard and Shafer’s hillside estate vineyard, both known for producing small berries with structure and depth of flavors quintessential of the Stags Leaps District.

This silky, elegant Cabernet Sauvignon has a lush mouthfeel, is consistently high-scoring, and represents the winery’s roots in this exceptional part of the Napa Valley.

From Jeb Dunnuck: “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five is a gem of a wine that readers will love to have in their cellars. Sweet cassis, violets, and graphite define the bulk of the aromas, and it’s a classic Napa Valley Cabernet on the palate with its full-bodied richness, velvety tannins, and opulent yet balanced style. A blend of 83% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot, and the rest Malbec and Petit Verdot, raised 20 months in new barrels, it’s going to keep for a solid two decades.” 96 Points

From Vinous: “The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is silky and elegant, with lovely aromatic presence and impeccable balance. Sweet tobacco, cedar, dried flowers and mint all give this mid-weight Cabernet lovely complexity and nuance. The 2018 has shut down since I tasted it last year, but that is not surprising given the style here. Today, bright acids give the 2018 energy, tension and a good deal of precision. Those qualities should help the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon age well over the coming decades.” 96+ Points

Winemaker is Chris Carpenter, also the winemaker for Cardinale and Lokoya.

From Vinous: “The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon from Mt. Brave is fabulous. Inky, rich and explosive, the 2018 possesses tremendous depth and tons of personality. Graphite, blue/purplish fruit, blackberry jam, bittersweet chocolate, sage, lavender, menthol give the 2018 tons of character to match its explosive feel. The brooding, backward wine is going to need quite a bit of time to unwind, but boy is it gorgeous.” 97 Points
