PRIDE MOUNTAIN VINEYARDS
2016 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
70% NAPA VALLEY | 30% SONOMA

Pride Mountain Vineyards is an iconic producer on Spring Mountain that defines the success of their wines by their uncanny ability to be identified in blind tastings.

This is due to the Estates highly distinct terroir, and their undeviating focus on producing intensely flavored wines that honor their unique property.

At around $80, their 2018 Cabernet is a benchmark for high-elevation hillside Cabernet in Napa Valley and Sonoma County, and it shouldn’t be missed.

The 85-acre Estate Vineyards are located at the top of Spring Mountain, and they straddle the Napa and Sonoma County line.

At about 2,000 feet above the Napa Valley floor, the extreme elevation provides warm mornings and cool afternoons that result in longer hang-time, and contribute textural and flavor characteristics that cannot be found anywhere else in the world, which is part of the reason why their wines are so desired.

Winemaker Sally Johnson employs traditional winemaking practices that are designed to let the terroir of the grapes take center stage.

This includes 100% destemming the red varietals, and fermenting over a two-week period in stainless steel tank before transferring the wine to French Oak Barrels for roughly 18 months.

This striking Cabernet originates from the tremendous 2018 vintage, which many critics have described as standout of the decade, and is comprised of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Petit Verdot and 5% Merlot.

Don’t miss this one.

Winery Notes: “Black currant, Morello cherry and just-ripe black mission fig dance with the aromas of sage, candied violets, star anise and black truffle. The palate is dense and compact with incredible structure. Layers of complex black and red fruit fill the mouth, while sandalwood, bay, graphite and forest aromatics linger with the velvety tannins on the long and dynamic finish. This is a showstopper!”

From Antonio Galloni’s Vinous.com: “The 2018 Merlot is another very pretty wine in this part of the Pride range. Plump and juicy, with mid-weight structure, the 2018 is gorgeous right out of the gate. Succulent black cherry, plum, mocha, licorice and spice all flesh out effortlessly, with bright acids that keep the flavors lively. The restrained style is so appealing.”

Winery Notes: “The incredible quality of the 2018 vintage is on full display in our Estate Merlot. The wine is sensationally dense with ripe plum, boysenberry, and blackberry that leap out of the glass and coat the palate. The smooth, rich fruit is complemented by milk chocolate, fresh tobacco, sandalwood, black licorice, violet, and mocha. The choreography of how the voluptuous fruit wraps around the volcanic minerality while merging with the velvety tannins makes for an intriguing ballet in the mouth that simply leaves you wanting more. Decant for one hour to let this beautiful peacock strut its stuff!”

Fred Schrader created Double Diamond to share Schrader Cellars’ tradition of excellence with a broader audience of wine lovers. His Schrader Cabernets are among the best in the world, proven by around thirty 100 point scores. This stunning Oakville Cabernet was crafted by Thomas Rivers Brown, who’s absolutely at the top of his game and is one of Cabernet Sauvignon’s dominating forces.

Winery Notes: “Prepare to be dazzled by this wine, with its harmonious integration of decadent fruit, refined structure, and exotic spice components. In the glass, the wine possesses a dark plum-purple hue. Intriguing aromatic notes of Mexican chocolate, nutmeg, brambly fruit, spearmint, and violets swell from the glass in concert. Upon entry, the mouthfeel is voluptuous, sleek, and inviting, while also exhibiting a silky tannin profile to provide a complex framework. Rich palate notes suggest black currant, blackberry reduction, leather, crushed rock, and allspice. This wine is very enjoyable and showing well today, but with 3-5 years in the cellar it will develop into an even more beautiful expression of the vintage.”
