LIMERICK LANE
2020 ZINFANDEL
RUSSIAN RIVER VALLEY
SONOMA COUNTY

Limerick Lane dials in an ideal balance of rich, powerful, and expressive Zinfandel that’s simultaneously fresh, bright, and focused. The winery is run by fourth-generation vigneron, Jake Bilbro who grew up at his father’s Marietta Cellars.

Jake Bilbro purchased the historic winery and vineyard in 2011, and proceeded to elevate the the legendary Limerick Lane Winery. He is the third steward of the historic property since the Del Fava family planted the estate vineyard in 1910.

The Del Favas saw the potential of the land early on, even before modern science, commonly used today in the New World to determine the best soils, plots and which rootstock and clones will thrive to the fullest.

Limerick Lane’s Russian River Zinfandel is a field blend including ancient Zinfandel vines co-planted with Peloursin, Negrette, and Syrah.

The Limerick Lane wines are made by Chris Pittenger, who gained first-hand experience working at iconic wineries Biale, Torbreck, Marcassin, and Williams-Selyem.

The winery is proud of its “hands-off, eyes on” approach that continues to lead to uniquely rich and powerful wines with brightness and elegance that earned the 2018 and 2019 vintages scores in the mid-90s.

The newly released 2020 vintage is just as glorious, offering substantial value at around forty bucks.

Tasting Notes: “The 2020 Limerick Lane Zinfandel begins with fresh aromas of cranberry, raspberry, boysenberry jam, and spicy notes of cinnamon, cloves, pepperwood, cedar, mushrooms. The sweet baking spices linger into a long and pleasant finish that enhances the fresh acidity and bright fruit character. This wine is charming on its own but is a lovely complement to a variety of dishes.”

Winery Notes: “The exciting 2019 MCM Gamba Estate Old Vine Zinfandel is a brilliant wine, with bright garnet hues shining in the glass. The aroma offers lush raspberry, rhubarb pie and savory dried herbs. Medium to full in body, the wine explodes with fresh berries, stone fruit and red cherry that are accented with delicious brown spices and an essence of toasty oak. The texture is slightly leathery, yet polished and refined. The wine is focused, compelling, and exquisitely layered, with mouth-watering tannins; a serious and seamless flavor experience from beginning to end. Lifting acidity and mild toasted oak round out the coda of its pleasant, lingering finish. A great wine to enjoy in its youth, or candidate to lay down in the cellar if you have the will power!”

Winery Notes: “This is a viscous and juicy wine that does not require a lot of aging to please you. Obviously ripe, but without going overboard, the wine is loaded with the ‘essence’ of Dry Creek Valley Zin: wild berries, dark cherries, and strawberries. The oak contributes a layer of cinnamon spice, toast, and slight vanilla-chocolate with a bit of brown sugar. On the palate, the wine is full, soft, and finishes fresh and juicy. At the time of these notes, the wine is very young and tightly-focused with good structure. With some more bottle age, it will become more generous and rewarding.”
