KATHERINE GOLDSCHMIDT
2018 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
STONEMASON HILL VINEYARD

ALEXANDER VALLEY

Nick Goldschmidt is a global winemaker whose vast experience knows no bounds. He makes wine in California, New Zealand and Argentina, and he’s known for producing rich wines that are also incredible values.

His Katherine Goldschmidt label has been a staple in our shop for years, and very few value wines can compete.

Nick also has an eye for sourcing exceptional fruit, and in previous years this wine was a single-vineyard Cabernet from Crazy Creek Vineyard, that for years went to Simi for their Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon ($75). The quality of the vineyard was recognized by Silver Oak and they purchased it recently.

Moving forward the wine will bear the moniker Stonemason Hill, and in 2018 the wine is a blend of fruit from Crazy Creek and Stonemason Hill, which is a site hand-selected by Nick Goldschmidt that’s located near Rattlesnake Hill and Blue Rock Vineyards in Alexander Valley.

Nick selected it because he believes the character and terroir of this site will ensure the continued stylistic goals that have made the brand so successful.

The newly released 2018 Cabernet from Stonemason Hill is striking, concentrated and poised. On the palate the wine offers an abundance of wild cherries, black raspberries, crushed rock and Baker’s Chocolate.

And just like in previous years, this beauty out-performs most Cabernets at double its price…

Winery Notes: “The color is bright and deep. Purple edges with deep red middle. The nose is immediately fruit driven. Ripe raspberries, black cherry and plum. In other words it smells just like a Cabernet grape. In the mouth complexity is the key. Lush ripe cherries and ripe blue berries on the front of the tongue. The mid mouth is all about power and richness. Comprised of dark plum and chocolate. The finish has supple round tannins with a long elegant finish. Hmm hmm hmm Drink now or over the next 10 years if you can wait that long!” – Nick Goldschmidt
