The 2020 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon, made by winemaking icon Randy Dunn and from the Columbian Valley in Washington State, has already captured the attention of wine critics with a 98-point rating from Wine Advocate.
Allen Shoup was a prominent visionary in the Washington wine industry and spent decades building the Chateau Ste Michelle brand and its affiliate wineries to international recognition. In 2002, Allen retired from Chateau Ste Michelle to launch the Long Shadows Vintners Collection, his most significant and ambitious project yet, aimed at elevating Washington wines by bringing in renowned international winemakers to create super-premium wines.
Allen hired ambitious French native Gilles Nicault to be the Director of Winemaking because of Gille’s knowledge, flexibility, and eagerness to merge his winemaking skills with each vintner.
Each winemaker joined the team as a co-owner of their wine, and in doing so, Allen hoped each partner would learn more about Washington’s vineyards and embrace the state’s viticultural excellence.
With over forty years of experience making wine in Napa Valley, Randy Dunn developed a reputation for his uncompromising style of California Cabernet Sauvignon over a decade at Caymus Vineyards, where his wines set the benchmark for Napa Valley Cabs. He began his wine career as an enologist at Caymus and never looked back. Along the way, his artistry has also shaped the reputation of other highly acclaimed wineries, such as Pahlmeyer, Livingston, Palmaz Vineyards, and La Jota, among others. In 1979, while still working with Caymus, Randy established Dunn Vineyards on Howell Mountain.
Randy expertly crafted the 2020 Feather Cabernet Sauvignon from hand-harvested grapes aged 22 months in 85% new French oak bringing forth a new level of sophistication from the Columbia Valley.

Tasting Notes: “Blackcurrants, chalky minerality, and subtle floral notes all emerge from the 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Feather, which is made by Randy Dunn and sourced from the Weinbau, Dionysus, Bacchus, Sagemoor, and The Benches vineyards. With medium to full-bodied richness as well as fine tannins, it’s a more elegant, streamlined Cabernet than past vintages yet shines for its purity and balance. It’s beautifully done and should have two decades of longevity.”
