DUCKHORN VINEYARDS
2017 MERLOT
THREE PALMS VINEYARD

NAPA VALLEY

It’s quite a feather in the cap of any winery that lands a wine on the annual Wine Spectator’s Top 100 list, let alone in the Top 20. As a matter of fact, the current release of Duckhorn’s 2017 Three Palms Merlot was rated higher (96 Points) than the 2014 (95 Points), which was selected as the #1 Wine on the Top 100 Wines of 2017.

Three Palms is the most distinguished Merlot Vineyard in the New World. Dan Duckhorn recognized the vast potential of vineyard early on, and has produced a single-vineyard Merlot from it since 1978.

The Wine Spectator describes the 2017 as “Powerful, rich and complex”, which is exactly what you’d expect from Three Palms.

Duckhorn’s 2017 Three Palms Vineyard Merlot perfectly embodies this hallowed ground most revered characteristics; Power, concentrated fruit, intensity and profound sense of place.

The 2017 was created from 100% Estate fruit, and combining 91% Merlot balanced with Cabernet, Malbec and Cab Franc.

The wine is powerful, driven, focused, and confident. I strongly recommend securing a case of this celebrated California Merlot, while it’s available.

From JebDunnuck.com: “From JebDunnuck.com: ” “I loved the 2016 Merlot Bancroft Ranch, which ranks with the finest expressions of Merlot out there. Brought up in 50% new barrels, it reminds me of a top Pomerol with its ripe black cherry, chocolate, tobacco, and graphite aromas and flavors. With full-bodied richness, good acidity, and outstanding balance, drink it any time over the coming 10-15 years.” 95 Points

From JebDunnuck.com: “Merlot excelled in 2018, and Pride’s 2018 Merlot offers a beautiful, medium to full-bodied, plump, rounded style that’s a joy to drink. Giving up lots of redcurrants, black cherries, tobacco leaf, earth, and chocolate, it has nicely integrated tannins and no hard edges. It’s a gem to enjoy over the coming 7-8 years, if not upwards of a decade or more.” Rating: 92

Winery Notes: “The incredible quality of the 2018 vintage is on full display in our Estate Merlot. The wine is sensationally dense with ripe plum, boysenberry, and blackberry that leap out of the glass and coat the palate. The smooth, rich fruit is complemented by milk chocolate, fresh tobacco, sandalwood, black licorice, violet, and mocha. The choreography of how the voluptuous fruit wraps around the volcanic minerality while merging with the velvety tannins makes for an intriguing ballet in the mouth that simply leaves you wanting more. Decant for one hour to let this beautiful peacock strut its stuff!”
