DOUBLE DIAMOND
2018 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
OAKVILLE | NAPA VALLEY

[by SCHRADER CELLARS]

“It’s a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under 100.”
-Jeb Dunnuck

Fred Schrader created Double Diamond to share Schrader Cellars’ tradition of excellence with a broader audience of wine lovers. His Schrader Cabernets are among the best in the world, and therefore expectations for any wine he produces are high.

He shattered them with his 2018 Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet, which Jeb Dunnuck proclaims is “a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100.” With a 95pt Score, chances are the 2018 will not be available for long.

Thomas Rivers Brown crafted this stunning Oakville Cabernet, and he’s absolutely at the top of his game and is one of Cabernet Sauvignon’s dominating forces.

Thomas made history as the first American winemaker to receive a perfect 100 point score from the Wine Spectator.

He’s also the winemaker at Revana, Maybach, Gemstone, and Outpost, to name a few.

Double Diamond sourced their 2018 fruit exclusively from prime vineyards in Oakville, and each site contributed its own set of unique characteristics.

At under $100 per bottle, this pedigreed Cab deserves a spot in your cellar and your table.

From JebDunnuck.com: “Readers looking to get a taste of the impeccable quality and style from Schrader at a more affordable price point would do well to check out the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon Double Diamond. Coming all from Oakville, it has a classic Cabernet nose of black and blue fruits, green tobacco, cedar pencil, damp earth, and chocolate. It’s not over the top and has beautiful varietal character as well as medium to full body, ripe yet present tannins, good overall freshness, and a great finish. This is beautifully done and well worth a case purchase. I’d lean toward drinking bottles over the coming 10-12 years, but I certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see it evolve longer. It’s a candidate for the best Napa Cabernet under $100.”

From JamesSuckling.com: “An elegant, fruit-driven cabernet sauvignon with notes of red fruit and spices. Fresh herbs, such as thyme. It’s full-bodied and well balanced. The texture is pleasant and smooth with elegant tannins. The finish is long and flavorful. Drink or hold.”

From JebDunnuck.com: “The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Savory Estate comes all from a great, higher elevation vineyard on Howell Mountain and checks in as 94% Cabernet Sauvignon and 6% Cabernet Franc. It spent 27 months in French oak prior to bottling, and there are a scant 125 cases made. This sensational effort boasts a dense, inky color as well as a kaleidoscope-like array of blueberries, blackcurrant liqueur, bay leaf, iron, and an almost bloody, meaty character that’s hard to describe. The palate doesn’t lose a beat and is full-bodied, deep, concentrated, and structured, yet also ethereal and elegant. This is mountain Cabernet at its finest! It has some upfront appeal already, yet my money is on it benefiting from 4-5 years of bottle age and cruising for 25-30 years. Hello, beautiful!”

Tasting Notes: “The 2016 Cornerstone Michael’s Cuvée 2016 begins with a penetrating nose of wild mixed berries, crushed stone, pipe tobacco, earthy mushrooms, sweet florals, and wood spice. The palate is focused, concentrated, and linear styled, with juicy red and black berries, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking spices, and freshly turned earth. The palate has crushed velvet tannins, outstanding length, and a fantastic balance of flavors on the finish. It drinks beautifully now and will improve over the next decade.“
