Joe Blanton was a professional MLB pitcher that was drafted by the Oakland Athletics in 2002. After 2 years in the minors he made his first major league debut on September 21, 2004 against the Texas Rangers.
Although he moved around to various teams during his professional career, Joe is best known for his appearance in game 4 of the 2008 World Series, pitching for the Phillies against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Joe got the win, and also hit a home run during the game to become the 13th pitcher overall to hit a home run in a Wolrd Series and the first since Ken Holtzman in 1974.
During Joe’s tenure with the Oakland A’s, Joe Blanton cultivated a passion for wine, fostered by team dinners during away games. In 2014, Joe and his wife, LeeAndra, embarked on a vinicultural venture by acquiring a quaint vineyard near Howell Mountain’s summit.
The Selah estate vineyard spans three acres and is meticulously cared for by esteemed hillside specialist Josh Clark, whose expertise is widely recognized in the Valley.
The Blantons enlisted Thomas Rivers Brown (Schrader, Outpost, Maybach, etc.) as their winemaker, drawn to an immediate connection with him; his winemaking style, cherished by them over the years, resonates with the same passionate vision Joe devoted to his baseball career.
The Selah 2019 Howell Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon excels across the spectrum, offering penetrating flavors, profound depth, impeccable structure, and enduring length. With a production of fewer than 250 cases, this wine is an absolute gem that deserves a spot in your cellar.

Tasting Notes: “The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon is a heady, exotic wine that shows the more opulent site of Howell Mountain. Inky, jammy fruit, spice, chocolate, leather and incense are front and center. This full-throttle Cabernet is not exactly subtle. The 2019 is dense and also pretty tannic. Give it a few years to soften. Drink 2024 – 2036.” 94 Points | Antonio Galloni | Vinous.com

2020 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
ALEXANDER VALLEY
$95.00
Tasting Notes: “The 2020 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley is a saturated red with a ruby hue and has a forward, floral perfume of juicy mixed black and red fruit, candied violets, plums, and fresh herbs. Full-bodied and gushing with primary fruit up front, it has fine tannins and a supple, rounded mouthfeel, offering loads of blackberries and flowers before revealing slightly more earthy tones of mossy earth and tea leaf. Drink 2025-2040.”

Retails at: $150.00 per bottle
Members’ price: $110.00
Tasting Notes: “Outstanding balance and complexity from the beginning that showcases concentrated black fruits and purple flowers with plenty of spices and subtle yet harmonious toast and cedar aromas. Intense graphite and stony minerality, too. Full- to medium-bodied on the mid-palate with delightful acidity that gives this wonderful crunchiness. Fine-grained juicy tannins. Precisely focused wine that is colorful and sound. Beautiful length, too. Already so drinkable now but will age gracefully, especially for Atlas Peak. Try after 2027.”
