MIGRATION
2017 PINOT NOIR
SONOMA COAST
by DUCKHORN
Duckhorn might be best known for Merlot, with their first vintage in 1978, but they’ve also been making Pinot Noir in the late 90s, and their Pinots are gaining some serious momentum.
In 1997 Duckhorn produced their first vintage of Goldeneye, which is a paragon in Anderson Valley, and in 2001 they introduced Migration, which focuses on cool-climate regions, highlighting lush fruit, bright acidity, and impeccable balance.
They also recently purchased Kosta Browne and Calera, so needless to say, they’ve become a powerhouse in high-quality Pinot Noir production.
The 2017 Migration Pinot Noir took flight from strategically chosen, cool-climate sites along the Sonoma Coast and near the Pacific Ocean.
The winery also produces a handful of single-vineyard Pinots from iconic vineyards like Dutton Ranch, which retail for nearly double the price of the Sonoma Coast.
Winemaker Dana Epperson and the winemaking team produced this Migration in a vibrant, highly-detailed style, with perfectly balanced acidity, soaring red berries, wildflowers, subtle spice, and silky texture.
If you’re searching for a classic cool-climate, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir that’s perfectly ready to drink now, and at a value price, this one is for you.

WESTWOOD
2016 PINOT NOIR
ANNADEL GAP ESTATE
Retails at: $48 per bottle
Members’ price: $39.99 per bottle
When a winery farms their vineyard biodynamically, and the site is ideally suited for Pinot Noir, AND they hire a world-class winemaker to help achieve their goal, great things happen. Westwood’s winemaker is Philippe Melka, whose vast experience includes winemaking at Bryant Family, Quintessa, Hundred Acre, and Dominus. At around $40, this Pinot absolutely should not be missed.
From Wine Enthusiast, “This exuberant wine from the estate site offers rich tones of forest floor and black tea. The palate brings wild strawberry, boysenberry and dried herb tones that veer into an intriguing note of white pepper on the finish.”
