Gary Pisoni is widely acknowledged as true pioneer grower that helped put the Santa Lucia Highlands AVA on the international wine map. He planted his first five acres of vines in 1982, and soon after, some of the most renowned Pinot Noir winemakers lined up to buy his fruit.
Today, the Pisoni Family is one of California’s most distinguished growers, having partnered in Grand-Cru quality sites like Pisoni, Garys’, Rosella’s, Sierra Mar, and Soberanes.
In 2000, Gary and his two sons, Mark (the viticulturist), and Jeff (the winemaker) created Lucia, highlighting the vast potential of the Santa Lucia Highlands.
Santa Lucia Highlands channels fog and cool air from the Pacific Ocean, making this region ideal for growing cool climate varietals like Pinot Noir.
