HIRSCH VINEYARDS
2016 PINOT NOIR
SAN ANDREA FAULTS

SONOMA COAST

People who farm the vineyards and make wine from the Fort Ross Seaview AVA refer to this region as the “Extreme” and/or “True” Sonoma Coast.

Situated at 1500′ Hirsch Vineyards overlooks the Pacific Ocean just three miles away, and sits within the highly-revered Fort Ross Seaview AVA where icons such as Marcassin, Peter Michael and Pahlmeyer all source fruit.

David Hirsch is a true pioneer of the Sonoma Coast. He bought the property in 1978 and planted his first grapes in 1980, making it the oldest premium Pinot Noir vineyard on the True Sonoma Coast.

In the early 1990s, the vineyard became one of the most sought-after sources of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes in California, and wineries such as Littorai, Williams Selyem, Kistler and Faila all made Hirsch-designated wines.

Hirsch Vineyards continues to produce some of the most powerfully concentrated, distinct and complexly flavored Pinot Noir grapes in all of California.

Simply put, Hirsch is one of those rare wines that you remember for months, or even years after tasting…

Similar to Burgundy, Hirsch Vineyard is divided into 67 individual blocks, each corresponding with changes in soil and terroir created by the near-by San Andreas Fault.

The San Andreas Fault Pinot is the winery’s flagship wine and in 2017 it encompasses 28 separate blocks within the Estate and is an extraordinary representation of their property.

The 2017 is packed with super-concentrated red and blue fruits, intense pomegranate, raspberry tea, and sea minerals. At $50, this is Grand Cru quality California Pinot Noir that’s brilliant now and will cellar for at least another decade.

From JamesSuckling.com, “A homage to the great fault line near Hirsch, this pinot has a brambly, rich array of red cherries and some blue-fruit notes with fresh, sappy, forest aromas, too. The palate has plenty of punchy tannin and forthright, fresh, unwavering drive.”

From RobertParker.com, “… Pale to medium ruby, the 2017 Pinot Noir San Andreas Fault has a delicately played nose with touches of cinnamon stick, dried leaves, perfumed earth and a mineral vein plus rose petal perfume, red berries and black fruit sparks. The palate is light to medium-bodied with delicate intensity and well-balanced fruit and earth character, knit by grainy tannins and juicy freshness, finishing long and nuanced” —EB
