GROTH
2016 RESERVE
CABERNET SAUVIGNON
OAKVILLE | NAPA VALLEY
More often than not, by the time you read about a wine featured on the prestigious Wine Spectator Top 100 list, let alone the Top 5, the wine is long gone…
Groth’s 2016 Reserve Cabernet, which ranked #4 on the Wine Spectator Top 100 list last year, wasn’t released when the list came out, but is being released now. This is fantastic news for anyone hunting for it, but supplies of wines with this kind of pedigree don’t last very long.
Groth is an American icon, and one that scored an infinite place in history when their 1985 Reserve Cabernet earned a perfect 100 Points from Robert Parker, who proclaimed it “undoubtedly the wine of the vintage,” and marking the first California Cabernet to earn a 100 point rating from Robert Parker.
Rooted in Oakville, Groth’s Vineyard sits adjacent to the prized Bonny’s Vineyard, made famous by by Justin Meyer at Silver Oak in the 1980’s. Side note: Justin planted the 4-acre vineyard in 1974 as a present to his wife, Bonny.
Pressed in their state-of-the-art gravity-flow winery, the 2016 perfectly expresses all of the hallmarks that make Groth Cabernet so revered, with massive extract, a deep concentrated core and notable delineation.

From Wine Spectator. “This delivers a very tightly focused, almost piercing beam of cassis, raspberry coulis and bitter cherry fruit, scored with singed alder and iron notes. Incense and tobacco details chime in on the finish. Long and refined, with the fruit leaving a sweet and mouthwatering echo. Best from 2022 through 2038.” -James Molesworth, Senior Editor
