Gamba Vineyards & Winery a family-owned and operated winery located in the Russian River Valley, and specializing in Sonoma County Zinfandel, blends and other varieties. Over the past two decades, Gamba has established itself as a major driving force and leader in Zinfandel production in Sonoma County.
Gus Gamba is one of the premiere growers in the Russian River Valley utilizing organic and sustainable farming practices. I have been working with Gus and his wines since the first release in 2000. Since then I have watched his evolution into not just one of the benchmark growers, but also a very talented winemaker.
The proof is in the pudding, as they say. The legions of loyal Gamba fans speaks volumes to the luscious, satisfying and delicious wines Gamba produces.
The Gamba Family Ranches originates from grapes Gus curates from some of his small, family-owned grower friends in the Russian River Valley, including Old Vines and younger vines to produce a beautifully balanced, lush, fruit-forward Zinfandel that delivers compelling depth and detail. Simply put, it’s a fun and enjoyable wine to drink.

Winery Notes: “The 2019 Family Ranches Zinfandel is a bold expression of Zinfandel, yet remains balanced, fresh and lively, dancing nimbly on the palate. This dark hued wine shines brilliantly in the glass, with its lovely scarlet tones of color. As you swirl the glass, notes of brown spices and berries emerge in the nose, with hints of black olive. A burst of mouth filling medley of dark berry fruit engages the senses, highlighting raspberry, blueberry, leather and mild woody tones. The wine is medium to full in body, yet feels deliciously light on the palate, with a compelling, slightly leathery texture. The proportionate, bright acidity lifts the wine’s feel on the palate, accenting the freshness of the fruit. A mouth-watering spiciness lingers on the finish, inviting the next tasting experience.”

Winery Notes: “Our limited production 2018 Gamba Petite Sirah from the Fountain Grove AVA Bastoni Vineyard showcases a beautiful deep and rich dark ruby/purple hue. A joy to behold, and even more fun to drink, this wine is juicy and deftly extracted, offering an array of dark berry fruits, including ripe blueberry and blackberry, along with notes of crème fraiche and leather on the nose. Notes of dark berries, brown spices and leather fan out on the palate. The wine is exquisitely balanced; round, slightly chalky, yet offering polished tannins. The mouthfeel is silky on the mid-palate, rich, and weighty, yet retains a pleasant buoyancy with its medium to full body. This delicious Petite Sirah finishes with lingering, dry, yet silky tannins, showcasing a satisfying texture with flavorful notes of mild, woody spice, fresh fruit, and a balanced mild acidity on the finish.
