FAR NIENTE
2022 CHARDONNAY
NAPA VALLEY
After being shuttered for 60 years due to Prohibition, Far Niente was resurrected and today is widely recognized as a benchmark producer of Napa Valley Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Nestled in the heart of California’s renowned Napa Valley, Far Niente stands as a testament to both tradition and innovation in winemaking. With its roots stretching back to 1885 under the guidance of John Benson, Far Niente flourished until the onset of Prohibition in 1919 brought its operations to a standstill. However, the story didn’t end there; after a 60-year hiatus, Gil Nickel reawakened this sleeping giant, transforming it into a benchmark producer of Napa Valley Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon.
A Legacy Reborn
The resurrection of Far Niente in 1979 marked a pivotal moment in Napa Valley’s wine history. With its inaugural bottling of estate Chardonnay, Far Niente not only re-established its presence but also set new standards for excellence in winemaking. The 2022 Far Niente Chardonnay continues this proud legacy, showcasing over 40 years of dedication and mastery in every bottle.
The 2022 Vintage: A Study in Balance and Sophistication
The 2022 Far Niente Chardonnay is a masterful blend sourced from the finest vineyards in Napa Valley’s Coombsville area. This region, reminiscent of Carneros but with its own unique climate, boasts well-drained soils composed of gravelly loam and volcanic ash, offering an ideal terroir for cultivating premium Chardonnay grapes.
Winemaking with a Purpose
In crafting this exceptional Chardonnay, Far Niente adheres to a philosophy that accentuates the grape’s inherent qualities. By eschewing malolactic fermentation, the winery preserves the wine’s crisp malic acid, ensuring a lively and refreshing character. Further refinement in French oak barrels enhances the fruit’s natural richness, striking a delicate balance between complexity and purity.
A Journey through Time
Far Niente’s 2022 Chardonnay is not just a wine; it’s a journey through time, a celebration of heritage, and a toast to the future of Napa Valley’s winemaking excellence. Cheers to a vintage that beautifully captures the essence of its storied past and vibrant present!
