Tasting Notes: “The 2022 Double Diamond Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon is crafted from the younger vines of the To Kalon vineyard, aged in 50% new oak and once-used Schrader barrels. This label focuses on blocks in the Mondavi To Kalon portion that don’t make the cut for the primary Schrader wines. Vineyard manager Blake Wood emphasises identifying blocks within areas like the ‘P Neighborhood’ of the To Kalon site, divided into distinct parcels. The wine exhibits a bright and vibrant profile, leaning toward red-fruited characteristics with crunchy black cherry and ripe plum notes. Rich toffee and caramel spices add complexity, while firm, structured tannins support the full-bodied richness. Tasting Notes: “The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley was matured for 22 months in 80% new French oak. The nose features maraschino cherries, dark chocolate, aniseed, violet, and a singular array of exotic spices. The medium-bodied palate is surprisingly light on its feet, with a frame of silky tannins and seamless acidity that highlights pretty floral and chocolaty tones on the finish. It has depth and complexity without weight and drinks beautifully straight from the bottle. 650 cases were made.”
