DI COSTANZO
2019 CABERNET SAUVIGNON
FARELLA VINEYARD
COOMBSVILLE | NAPA VALLEY
Di Costanzo’s 2019 Farella Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is our #1 Wine in 2022 at Wine Country Connection, chosen for a culmination of unmistakeable factors, making it an obvious choice and setting it apart from all of the other remarkable wines from this past year. This wine’s site identity is crystal clear and delivered with laser-like precision, keen focus, and faultless balance. The wine has everything dialed into perfection, but on top of everything, Erin and Massimo Di Costanzo’s passion and drive to produce world-class Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon take it to the next level.
Erin and Massimo Di Costanzo created the Di Costanzo brand after realizing Napa Valley had a growing interest in wines made from small, family-owned wineries with a deep passion that transferred from the vineyard to the bottle.
Massimo’s Italian heritage inspired his ambition to study wine; his education at UC Davis sent him around the world, working harvests at Tignanello in Tuscany, Clos de Los Siete in Argentina, and with Adi Badenhorst in South Africa.
Massimo later gained valuable experience working under Andy Erickson at Ovid and Screaming Eagle, and then with Philippe Melka at Atelier Melka Wine Consulting before he and his wife Erin combined their knowledge and love for wine to create focused single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignons.
Tom Farella was the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in the Coombsville AVA in 1979, his vineyard producing wines with a majestic structure and ethereal aromatics.
The 2019 Di Costanzo Farella Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon is the total package and completely mesmerized our tasting panel with its beautifully intricate nose, layers of complex flavors, impeccable balance, and everlasting finish.

“The 2019 Cabernet Sauvignon Farella Vineyard is sensational, and also the greatest wine I have tasted from Massimo and Erin Di Costanzo. All the elements are so well balanced. Black cherry, plum, tobacco, dried herbs and leather literally explode from the glass. Readers who can find the 2019 should not hesitate, as it is a major-league wine.” —Antonio Galloni

“Herbal, elegant and textured in sublime layers of elegant power, this 100% varietal wine from the cooler pockets of the Napa Valley shows notes of pillowy tannin, crushed rock and currant that linger within a framework of cohesive structure. The wine is built to last; enjoy best from 2029–2039.”

“One of winemaker Sam Kaplan’s finest showings from a lineup of 15 wines across his consulting clients, which include Vida Valiente, Memento Mori, Vangone and Maxem, his own label. This 100% Cabernet is a blend of grapes from Pritchard Hill, Howell Mountain and Calistoga. Aged 22 months in 75% new French oak it delivers heady aromas of cinnamon-dusted black cherry and ripe blueberry, an intriguing herbal note and ground espresso. The structured palate is broad and plush with red boysenberries, savoury black olives, leather and a refreshing herbal note. It glides to a chocolate finish, supported by fine-grained, sappy tannins. Drinking Window 2021 – 2040.”

95 Points | Kevin M. Vogt, Master Sommelier
“The Salus Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon 2019 begins with a focused nose of dark berries, elegant florals, and light spice. The concentrated, lush, delineated fruit flavors on the palate include powerful black currants, juicy blackberries, briary boysenberries, and ripe bing cherries. Complex notes of pencil lead, French lavender, dusty baker’s chocolate, fresh rosemary, and light vanilla spice soon follow. The intensity of fruit, plush, long finish, and slightly dusty tannins allow immediate enjoyment of this Cab but promise over a decade of beautiful drinking in this sweet spot.”
