CAYMUS VINEYARDS
2019 SPECIAL SELECTION
CABERNET SAUVIGNON

NAPA VALLEY

Caymus Special Selection, one of Napa Valley’s most sought-after wines, holds the distinction of being named Wine Spectator’s “Wine of the Year” twice, a feat unmatched in history.

After graduating high school, Chuck Wagner was invited to become part of the family wine operation. Chuck’s father, Charlie, was an avid farmer growing grapes, prunes, and walnuts. Charlie was also making homemade wines on the side that quickly got the attention of friends and neighbors. In 1972, they made the first vintage of Caymus Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, a 250-case production that sold out quickly. That was the beginnings of a wine that helped put Napa Valley on the map as the epicenter for high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon, and the rest, as they say, is history.

The winery pioneered crafting beautifully ripe Cabernet Sauvignon with velvety tannins, achieved through an extended hang-time, where the fruit is kept on the vine unusually long, allowing the berries to develop attractive suppleness and perfectly mature flavors.

Adjacent to Beckstoffer’s Georges III Vineyard, Caymus’s vineyard produces remarkably concentrated fruit. Each year, rigorous barrel assessments ensure only the finest are chosen for crafting the winery’s flagship Special Selection.

Celebrated for its approachability and graceful aging potential, Caymus’s Special Selection Cabernet stands as a hallmark of excellence.

Winery Notes: “Suisun (su-soon) Valley, which lies to the Southeast of Caymus, is only a 40-minute drive and reminds the Wagner family of Napa Valley 40 years ago. With its warm days and cool nights, the region is known for delicious stone fruits and walnuts – increasingly, it is also gaining recognition for its wine. Durif is synonymous with Petite Sirah, the widely grown grape in the region – they added “Grand” to the name of the Suisun-grown Durif because it has a grand style. With lush textural tannins, this wine is rich, supple, and totally enjoyable.”
