We recently uncovered some very exciting wines you might like to know about, including the newly released 2019 vintage of the FORTUNATE SON wines by Jason Woodbridge of Hundred Acre. But first I’m excited to let you know about another brand that was introduced to us, and that appears to be on the fast track to becoming a major player in the upper echelon of Napa Valley wines; CATHIARD VINEYARD.
CATHIARD VINEYARD
Cathiard Vineyard is perched slightly above the valley floor on the lower slopes of the Mayacamas mountains with vineyards straddling both the Rutherford and St. Helena appellations.
Florence and Daniel Cathiard purchased the estate after falling in love with its biodiversity. This connection to nature has been the cornerstone of their properties in Bordeaux, including Château Smith Haut Lafitte which they have owned since 1990. They have recruited some of the finest minds and talents in the world of wine, including renowned French consultant, Michele Roland.
These three wines are the inaugural releases of the wines from Cathiard Vineyard, and if they’re any indication of things to come, we will see them among the top wines from Napa Valley. Great time to get on the ground floor of Cathiard Vineyard.

“So pure and beautiful with perfumes and cedar as well as currants. Dark mushrooms and bark. A medium-bodied wine with dark berry, currant, chocolate, hazelnut, and fine tannins. 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. Better in two or three years and beyond.”

“Wonderful aromas of blackcurrants, dark plums, mint, sage, and dried wood. Some sandalwood. Full- to medium-bodied with tannins that have the texture of fine velvet and run down the length of the wine. Extremely polished and refined. Sophisticated. Firm at the end. This will age beautifully. Pure cabernet sauvignon. Best after 2026.”
