Little did Burt Williams and Ed Selyem know they were creating an iconic Russian River Valley winery when they started crushing grapes in their Sonoma County garage in 1979. But they did and helped put world class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay from Russian River Valley on the international map.
Have you ever wondered what goes into California’s most iconic Pinot Noir? It all starts in the fields with ridiculously high-quality grapes sourced from some of California’s best vineyards, but it’s what happens next that makes them a model of quality and consistency every vintage.
The winery follows a strict minimal interference approach to their winemaking with absolutely no pumping, no filtering or any other process that can potentially unsettle or compromise quality. From there, it’s about the smallest details, like the old-world method of foot treading the grapes (in clean waders) that leads to the naturally regal quality that you can taste in their wines.
The winery excelled in 2017 with exceptional levels of seductive fruits, supreme complexity and stunning balance. Their Eastside Road Neighbors is one of my all time favorites, and at under $100, the level of quality leaves me at a loss for words.
Forged from iconic vineyards, the 2017 offers an equilibrium of intense red fruits, fine details and stunning balance. The winery made history when Wine Enthusiast awarded their Litton Estate Pinot a perfect 100 Point score, which was the first Pinot in North America to earn 100 points from any major wine publication.
