Despite selling his PRISONER brand to the the Huneeus Family empire (now known as The Prisoner Wine Company) in 2010, Dave Phinney’s ORIN SWIFT label has been steadily building a loyal fan based following of wine lovers who enjoy rich, “crowd-pleasing”, immensely satisfying wines.
In the latest issue of Robert Parker’s Wine Advocate, the current releases of Orin Swift wines fared extremely well. A stellar example of one of Orin Swift’s white wines is the 2013 MANNEQUIN.
When I first tasted Orin Swift’s 2013 Mannequin in July, it became evident this wine would be a hit… Robert Parker recently reviewed this impressive wine, rating it 96 Points, an very high score for a domestic white wine at this price range. In part, his review declares, “…This is amazing wine, a gorgeous, full-throttle, honeyed wine… more individualistic than anything I’ve ever tasted….”
The wine is a nicely balanced combination of predominantly Chardonnay (76%), complemented with Viognier, Marsanne, Grenache Blanc, Muscat and Roussanne. The end result is a veritable Cirque du Soleil performance on your palate.
Mannequin is truly a dance between varietals and the winemaker. With Dave Phinney’s superior blending expertise, he has once again crafted a delicious new blend that truly over-delivers in quality. I strongly recommend a case of this fantastic white.
From Robert Parker’s The Wine Advocate,
“The 2013 Proprietary White Mannequin, which draws fruit from diverse regions of Northern California such as the Carneros Basin and the Sonoma Coast, is actually a blend of 76% Chardonnay, 8% Viognier, 6% Marsanne, 5% Grenache Blanc, 3% Muscat and 2% Roussanne. This is amazing wine, a gorgeous, full-throttle, honeyed wine with a light-gold color, oodles of tropical fruits including pineapple and mango, rose petal and floral notes, and beautifully integrated oak (aged in 40% new French oak on its lees for 11 months). This full-throttle wine is completely different and more individualistic than anything I’ve ever tasted. It is a magnificent, full-throttle, exuberant dry white to drink over the next 3-4 years.” 96
