Prime Pritchard Hill Location Plus Napa Wine Veteran Team Bode Well For A Promising Future For
Bob Long co-founded the David Arthur Vineyards with his brother David in 1978 in the eastern hills of Napa Valley known as Pritchard Hill. Chappellet was already capturing the attention of Napa Cabernet fans, and by the early 1990s, David Arthur wines, especially the Elevation 1147, were getting rave reviews from wine critics. The region went on to become one of the premier growing regions in Napa Valley that eventually became home to such renowned wineries as Colgin, Bryant Family, Ovid, and Continuum.
The latest addition to the Pritchard Hill neighborhood is MONTAGNA, Bob Long’s new project. The estate vineyards are situated at 1200-1400 feet elevation and are comprised of three distinct vineyards planted in 2001 to Bordeaux varietals – La Pressa (“The Pond”), Montagna (“Mountain”), and Casadores (the “Hunter”).
To make the wines, Long enlisted Nile Zacherle, who brings over 10 years of winemaking experience to the table. Zacherle began at Navarro Vineyards, and later made award winning wines at Chateau Montelena and Barnett Vineyards, finally taking the reigns at David Arthur in 2005.
Montagne 2007 Tre Vigneti Cabernet Sauvignon
The 2007 Tre Vigneti Cabernet Sauvignon is a gorgeous blend of 93.5% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc and 1.5% Petit Verdot that was aged a full 23 months in custom Seguin Moreau French oak.
This is a rich, well-balanced and opulent wine with a depth of flavor, body and character! A recent tasting with a group of North Coast wine brokers ended with an unusual result, a unanimous thumbs-up! That simply does not happen very often.
It’s inky dark in color, with a huge bouquet of blackberries, cassis and vanilla oak. The mouth-feel is intense and concentrated with a seamless, silky and supple structure that leaves an indelible impression.
Complex, deep and profound flavors are full and intense, with silky tannins, yet rich and smooth on the palate with an impressively long finish. It’s a knockout!
Lovers of rich, decadent Napa Valley mountain Cabernet Sauvignon are well advised to seek out the new MONTAGNA 2007 TRE VIGNE CABERNET SAUVIGNON. It’s a wine you won’t soon forget! ($50)
