With 2007 Pinots Disappearing Quickly, Don’t Miss These Gems
By George Bato on Jul 3, 2010 in Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast
In the video below I describe two fabulous Pinot Noirs from the 2007 vintage, and one from 2008. At the time this was made we still had about 15 cases left of the Stonewood 2008 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, but the wine has since sold out. The other two 2007 Pinots are still available, but won’t be for long.
LIBARLE 2007 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir
$26.67 per bottle, $320 per case
Wow! Rich, dark cherry fruit with a touch of cola berry. Just enough earth and leather to keep it on the ground, this Pinot wants to soar! Think of a California Gevrey-Chambertin. I know, it blows your mind. It did mine too! You and I have both tasted Pinot Noir at twice this price that pales in comparison. 210 cases produced.
STONEWOOD 2008 Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir – Sold Out!
$24 per bottle, $288 per case
FREEMAN 2007 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir
$42 per bottle, $504 per case
With a star-studded lineup of vineyard sources such as Thorn Ridge, Horse Ridge, Keefer, O’Connor, Connell, and Sexton as the foundation, this ’07 Pinot Noir exhibits classic Russian River Valley Pinot Noir aromas, flavors and texture.
For me this is what Russian River Pinot Noir is all about. It shows the best of what the appellation has to offer. For those who relish Russian River Pinot Noir, this wine is a must!
Winemaker Ed Kurtzman (Roar, August West, and previously at Testarossa) sums it up perfectly, “…this wine displays remarkable color that is significantly darker than past bottlings. The aroma offers an intriguing nose of earth, tar and oak, followed by a lush palate filled with an array of berry fruits.”
