After Robert Parker’s latest visit to the winery, he alerted readers…

“… Gamba’s name is going to have to be included with some of the stars of Sonoma, such as Hartford Court, Carlisle, Bedrock and even the superstar Turley over in Napa.”

A Russian River Valley Teasure

The wines are absolutely captivating, perpetually gaining momentum and proving to be top contenders on California’s Zinfandel scene, Agostino Gamba, Jr.’s Old Vine Zinfandels are quickly gaining world-wide acclaim, and for good reason.

Certainly one of the benchmark Zinfandel growers and producers of Old Vine Zinfandel in the Russian River Valley, if not in the world. Gus Gamba considers himself a steward of the land and employs organic, sustainable farming practices. His Gamba Estate Vineyard was planted in 1900 (I think that qualifies as “old vine”), and only yields approximately 1/2 – 1 ton per acre. The vineyard is impeccably farmed and maintained by Gus and a handful of trusted workers.

The Wine

Stemming from ancient vines planted in 1900, yielding just .5-1.0 tons per acre of strikingly intense, concentrated, pristinely focused fruit. Unsurprisingly, many of our Zinfandel-loving clients have proclaimed that Gamba Zin is “The BEST wine in the world.” With another steep decline in production for the 2015 vintage, you would be well advised to grab yours while it’s available.

Winemaker’s Notes: “The 2015 Gamba Estate Old Vine Zinfandel is an incredibly expressive and deeply colored garnet beauty. Aromas and flavors of Bing cherry, briary berry notes with wild flowers, and brown spice jump out of the glass. The entry on the palate is smooth, plush and inviting. This wonderful Zinfandel from the historic old vine Gamba Estate is refreshing, and exuberant in fruit. A mix of ripe cherry and just-ripe blackberry fills the mid-palate, dense and mouth-filling, but not heavy. Flavors of delicately spiced cinnamon follow, with dollops of vanilla, and ripe red raspberry. The fruit notes are complemented by nuances of lightly roasted coffee and earthen spice, finishing long, with balance and grace.”
