Marietta Cellars Angeli Cuvee

Scot & Jake Bilbro – Marietta Cellars

There are a few wineries that have helped put Alexander Valley in northern Sonoma County on the world stage of wine growing and production. Wineries such as Robert Young, Jordan Vineyards, Alexander Valley Vineyards, Murphy Goode, Stuhlmuller Vineyards, White Oak, and others certainly played a large part in establishing the region as a premier AVA (American Viticultural Area).

But the conversation would not be complete without including Marietta Cellars. Read More

As we approach the harvest season in wine country (also known as “The Crush”), hotels, lodges and BnBs start filling up. With all the hustle and bustle surrounding The Crush, harvest season is a very popular time for wine fans from all over the world to make the pilgrimage to the “holy land”.

GEORGE SCOTT is a label that a few of my partners and I introduced in 2007 that quickly developed a loyal following.  The “quality-to-price-ratio” of the GEORGE SCOTT wines was off the hook!

Since the last release in 2009, we have been on a mission to find a wine worthy enough to continue the GEORGE SCOTT legacy.  And I’m delighted to tell we’ve found it – a fantastic Cabernet Sauvignon at a remarkable price!

* New Label * New Vineyard Source * New Vintage *
* Same GEORGE SCOTT Quality * Same GEORGE SCOTT Value *

George Scott 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Limited ReleaseGEORGE SCOTT 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon ‘Limited Release’

If you enjoy mouth watering, approachable and age worthy Cabernet and appreciate great value, this wine is for you!

The fruit comes from a magnificent Sonoma Mountain vineyard adjacent to the renowned and historic Laurel Glen Vineyards in the Sonoma Mountain appellation. Why should you care? Well Laurel Glen Vineyards was just sold to Bettina Sichel of Quintessa Winery.

The new “dream team” assembled that will be taking over maintenance of the vineyards and wine production includes Phil Coturri (Kamen) as viticulturalist, David Ramey as winemaking consultant and David DeSante as winemaker.

The point being, this powerhouse team would not take on this venture if they did not truly believe they can produce something spectacular from these vineyards in the Sonoma Mountain appellation.

Tasting Notes:

Abundant, ripe, classic, sophisticated and remarkably well-balanced, the 2008 GEORGE SCOTT Limited Release Cabernet Sauvignon features aromas of dark, sweet cherries, cassis, dark chocolate, cigar box, anise and a hint of toast. On the palate it is packed with sweet cherries and rich jammy dark fruit flavors.

The unique Sonoma Mountain terrior adds a stony minerality, depth and breadth. The finish is extensive, clean, lingering and delightful. There is lots of extraction without any suggestion of being overly ripe. Structure and backbone are beautifully incorporated with the forward fruit. Smooth, fine tannins finish a wine that is profoundly enjoyable now and assures a decade of stimulating development in the years ahead.

The wine is rich, seamless, fruit-forward, distinctive and extremely satisfying. I strongly encourage you to get your hands on a case or two as soon as possible. Since it is very limited, there is the distinct possibility that there will not be a second opportunity at this one!

This seamless wine shows like a much more expensive Cabernet. We have all had Cabernets at three times the price that pale by comparison. I think it is the best GEORGE SCOTT wine we have offered to date, and one of the finest Sonoma County Cabernets I have tasted.
